Step 1: Configure Your Settings

  1. Open the Blackmagic Camera App

First, download and open the app. You’ll notice it’s designed to mimic the interface of professional cinema cameras—don’t worry, I’ll guide you through it.

  1. Navigate to the Settings Menu

Tap the settings icon (gear icon).

  1. Set the Codec to H.265

• Under the codec section, choose H.265. This codec handles 4K videos more efficiently than H.264, allowing for higher quality footage at smaller file sizes.

Pro Tip: The higher the bitrate, the sharper and more professional your footage will look.

Step 2: Enable 4K and Adjust Color Space

  1. Switch to 4K Resolution

In the settings menu, ensure the resolution is set to 4K for maximum clarity and detail in your videos.

  1. Head to the Color Space Tab

• Here, you’ll find options like Rec709, Apple Log, or SLog3.

Rec709: This is a standard color format used for TVs and displays—it’s what you’re seeing now.

Apple Log or SLog3: These are flat filming formats designed to preserve colors and maximize dynamic range.

• They look dull at first but allow for incredible flexibility during color grading.

Important: To make these look normal, you’ll need to convert them to Rec709 using a LUT (don’t worry, I’ll show you how later).

Step 3: Choose Orientation and Save Settings
